Welcome
The coming of the new year brings change to our film class.
George Robinson, the film critic for The Jewish Week and long-time Heights resident, takes the lead. George has taught film at several NYC area colleges and will be bring that experience to bear by offering a slightly different approach. He calls it “How to SEE (instead of just watching) a Movie”.
Over the course of 2012, besides showing 10 great films — some old classics, some new classics-to-be — George will offer members a chance to learn a new way to look at movies.
The first 30 minutes of every program, from 7:00–7:30 p.m., will be devoted to one aspect of the film art. Over the year, you’ll learn about how filmmakers use color, sound, editing and other elements to create meaning and experience for film goers.
We hope, like us, you’re excited at the prospect of this new enhancement, but, you can’t make it by 7:00 pm, films begin at 7:30, so feel free to join us for the film/after discussion only. Either way, you won't be disappointed! No time for dinner before the film? No problem, sandwiches, beverages and concession snacks are available for purchase.
